Good SEO practices

Experts say that you need to avoid black hat or bad search engine optimisation practices. Cloaking, link farming, spamming, spamdexing, and hiding text are some of the bad SEO practices that should be avoided. But what are the good SEO practices that should be adhered to?

Good Practice #1: Good SEO means good keywords. Select and use your keywords carefully. This requires research and assumed knowledge. Use a variety of keyword research tools to help you determine which ones to use.

Good Practice #2: Use the title tag because it is one of the most important tags in SEO. Create a unique title tag for every web page that should properly describe the content of the page. Use keywords at the beginning of the tag.

Good Practice #3: Write a well-thought-out meta description. Although meta description has nothing to do with your earning a high search engine results position or SERP, a good description helps visitors choose your link over others.

Good Practice #4: Always place keywords in the right places. Keywords should be found in title tags, header tags, link texts and in alt tags, as well as in the content itself. It helps to place keywords at the beginning and end of the web page.

Good Practice #5: Resolve structural issues and problems. In SEO, you must make it a point that your website has consistent navigation. Text links are better than images or icons. Avoid using frames and flash and do place a site map.

Good Practice #6: Have your HTML code validated. If your code is compliant with the latest standards in web design, you will most likely be more accessible to visitors and search engines.

Good Practice # 7: Check your links and fix broken ones. Broken links cause issues among visitors and search engines. Search engines will not hesitate to remove your page from the index if it cannot be accessed.

Good Practice #8: Submit profile only to quality websites. It’s part of SEO to submit your website to directories, but be careful in choosing which sites to submit your profile to. The directories you choose must be in good standing with search engines. Avoid using submission software.

Good Practice #9: Use a good link building strategy. Although it takes time to implement, a good strategy will always provide good results. Write great articles and press releases and submit them to quality submission sites. Allow free publication of your articles so that you get more backlinks. Use reciprocal links but choose your link partners well.

Good Practice #10: Monitor your SEO practices. Review your practices and strategies to see if they bring in good results. If not, then find ways to improve. You can see your performance by using search engine reporting tools and web stats analysis.
