5 tips on Snapchat for business – and not just to turn yourself into a dog!

6 July, 2017

Snapchat marketingSnapchat is a growing social media platform with more than 300 million monthly active users. Over 2.8 million snaps are created and 158 million users are active every single day. Thanks to the ‘stories’ feature which allows people to view your snaps for 24 hours, Snapchat is an ideal platform to gain mass coverage in a short space of time.

Did you know that 45% of Snapchat users are between 18-24 and 60% of users are under 25? If your target audience includes millennials and Generation Z then Snapchat could be exactly what you need. Have you considered incorporating Snapchat into your marketing strategy?

How can you use Snapchat?

1)    Build a new base of fans

Firstly, you will need to build up an audience of people who can view your story. You could use your other social media platforms to promote and build your brand on Snapchat. You could even promote a reward scheme such as ‘The first 10 people to add our Snapchat will receive a £5 discount voucher’ via your current social media platforms to attract followers.Snapchat marketing

2)   Preview new products or services

One thing you can do to engage and intrigue your customers is previewing new products! For example, Kylie Jenner posts swatches and demos of her new makeup products which leaves them sold out within seconds. Taco Bell recently released a video on Snapchat of a new item that was being added to their menu. And clothes companies such as ‘In the Style’ regularly use Snapchat to advertise their business. These kind of things can grab people’s attention, keep customers up to date with current products and leave them wanting to see more!

3)    Behind the scenes

Snapchat can be the perfect platform for giving your fans an exclusive insight to what goes on behind the scenes at your business. From small snippets of the day-to-day office activities to exclusive Q&As with members of your team, there’s so much that you can do! You could even upload videos from any events you’re attending and use the event hashtag on Twitter to promote your Snapchat coverage.

4)    Reward your fans

You can reward customers by posting a snap of a code which will give people an exclusive offer or reward, for example 10% discount. An even better way of increasing your snap impressions is to do a ‘recommend me to a friend to get both of you 20% off your next buy’. This way, not only does that one person want the reward but so does their friend, and their friend, and their friend!

5)    It’s all about the timing…

Pick the right time to post a story! As the majority of Snapchat users are of high school, middle school and college ages, the prime time to post is in the late evenings, shortly after 10pm. As a lot of this audience will be in bed around this time, they may scroll through their Snapchat stories and see your brand’s campaign. Or if they’re already asleep then your story may be one of the first things they see in the morning!Snapchat marketing

The next step for you is to think about your target audience. If it is within that under 25 age bracket, then why not try Snapchat out? Take advantage of social media platforms you already use; send out a tweet with your Snapchat username and promote an upcoming competition to encourage people to add your brand on Snapchat.
