Why your business needs you to blog and how to do it
I’m always talking about the importance of blogging, both for engagement and for SEO. Regular readers will be familiar with the business benefits of blogging. But for those not in the know, here is a quick run-down:
- Drive the right kind of traffic to your website, ripe for conversion
- Explain more about your products and services and overcome barriers to online purchase
- (if your website makes buying easy, both of the above can lead to increased sales)
- Build brand awareness and long-term engagement, leading to loyal followers
- Build good quality inbound and outbound links to and from your website
- Generate regular, high quality content that can both be posted on your site and shared through social media channels
- Boost your website visitors (brought to your site by inbound links and social sharing)
- The above three activities will boost your website’s SEO: see your website search engine ranking increase as a result optimisation
Blogging has benefits for both B2B and B2C organisations. Even if you don’t want to use blogging for selling direct, organisations and business leaders can use blogs to establish themselves as industry leaders and experts in their field instead.

Jonny Ross: How to win business online with a sparkling SEO strategy and brilliant blogging techniques
The Brand Yorkshire annual conference brings together a huge range of Yorkshire business leaders for a full day of talks and an exhibition. Registration is free for delegates.
I will be talking about blogging and SEO. As 90% of consumers use search engines to make purchase decisions, and over 70% trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations, I will be asking ‘What does Google tell people about your business?’
Online search is now the primary first point of contact for your potential customers and clients. Yet while most businesses now have a website, many are still missing out on connecting with them due to a lack of understanding of how SEO works and the huge importance (ranking score) that search engines now place on shareable content like blogs.
I will explain how to use blogging to both connect and engage with customers and clients, and to boost your website’s search engine rankings, including an overview of how blogging works, how to set up and manage a blog, and how to create interesting and shareable blog posts that grab readers and make them want to tell all their friends about you!
If you are coming along to any of these events, do let me know what topics are of most interest to you and would you would like to get out of my talk.
